The London leg begins
Oh dear. It's been a very long time since the last blog post. We usually have two excuses for this:1. Too much has been happening
2. Not enough has been happening
In this case, it's probably a bit of both.
So where to start? Well, in case you didn't know, we're in London. Not quite settled yet - still hopping between short term places until 23 June, when we can move in to our chosen place in Borough. Some other bits of news:
- Bek has a job, I don't.
- Summer is coming. We've had some absolutely gorgeous days. Also some rotten ones, but they just make you appreciate the good days even more.
- We've spent a fair bit of time looking around London. What a beautiful city.
- Went to the Cambridge Beer Festival (try Cromwell's Bitter Defence if you ever get a chance), and the Brighton Festival (see The 7 Fingers if you ever get a chance). Both were good.
- Our eternal gratitude to Wil, Joyce, Dave & Alecia and Jo for letting us stay with them, for their advice and support, and for not letting us pay for stuff that we should have paid for.
That pretty much brings us up to date.
Some nasty changes to the visa rules mean that our plans for after Feb 2009 (when our current working holiday visas expire) are now up in the air. It is now impossible to switch from our current visas to any other kind from within the UK, so if we want to continue our London adventure longer than that, we'll have to go back to the land of Oz and apply from there. The application process is now harder and the rules are tighter. So it looks like the tide of antipodeans that have been flooding this country for years is now reversing - they're going home. We're mentally preparing for the possibility that we may have to as well, but not prepared to give up yet.
Side note - TNT magazine is having a travel photography competition and I'm thinking of entering one of the below on behalf of Bek. Comments welcome.

Hi Brett, welcome back to the land of blog. We have been slack too! Hope all goes well with work in London, but enjoy whatever you end up doing. As for the photos, I love the middle one, or the last one cropped down a bit.
All the best,
Gemma.

Cheers Gemma. I've cropped them down and fiddled with them using GIMP. Seems to have improved them. It's amazing how much difference it can make just turning up the contrast and adjusting the colour balance.

Bek always takes good photos. It's like I always say, "You know who takes good photos? Bek."
